Understanding the Coalition’s housing policies

Future of London launched its latest set of Breakfast Seminars this morning, which will be examining the issue of housing provision in London closely over the coming months. This is a period of significant reform and change in the housing sector across the UK. The Coalition government is determined to transform a system which it believes is wasteful while not delivering the levels of housing required to meet demand, so as to further their deficit reduction programme, and mitigate the range of social and economic challenges that this presents.

This morning we discussed how the Coalition has begun this process, and what the prospects for their programme of reforms is in London. We heard from Jamie Ratcliff, Head of Intermediate Markets from HCA, Tom Titherington, Chief Executive of Network Housing, and Pat Hayes, Executive Director for Regeneration and Housing at LB Ealing. They were joined by panelists Alisdair Chant, Managing Director at Berkeley Homes, and Alex Morton, a Research Fellow at centre-right think tank Policy Exchange.

Slides from the session can be found here, and we will shortly be publishing a series of articles covering some of the key issues arising from the wider discussion which accompanied the formal presentations.
