Event Series: The Future of the Private Rented Sector

We are holding a series of three events focused on the Private Rented Sector, in light of its growing prominence in London’s housing market. The events are run in partnership with PWC.

The purpose of the series is to explore the sector’s growing prevalence in London’s housing market. With house prices continuing to rise, as well as the huge challenges facing social housing provision, the growth of the Private Rented Sector has long been thought of as part of the solution to housing pressures in London, but there remain issues that need to be tackled. Can the private rented sector fill in the gaps that exist in the current market? How can the GLA, London Boroughs and Registered Providers help ensure that the PRS offer is an attractive, long term option for Londoners? And how can new investment be attracted to fund the further expansion of the PRS in the Capital?

With these challenges in mind, this series of seminars will address three main themes:

  • Policy landscape – 8th November. Speakers at the event are: Terrie Alafat, Director of Housing Growth and Affordable Housing, DCLG; Richard Hill, Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director – Programmes, HCA; Professor Christine Whitehead, Professor of Housing, LSE; and Alan Benson, Head of Housing Policy, Strategy & Services, GLA.
  • Regulation and reform – 29th November. Speakers at the event are: Ian Doolittle, Partner, Trowers and Hamlins; Andrew Heywood, independent housing consultant; and Chris Norris, Head of Policy, Research and Public Affairs, National Landlords Association.
  • New investment models – 6th December. Speakers at the event are: Harvey Griffiths, Chief Executive, HIF Group; David Montague, Chief Executive, L&Q London Housing Association; and John Webber, Associate Director, Corporate Finance, PwC.

All events will take place from 08.00-10.15, and will include a light breakfast followed by a panel of speakers and Q&A.
