Future London Leaders passed the 100th candidate mark on January 15th with the launch of Round 7. The programme, sponsored in part by Lovell, offers up-and-coming practitioners from Future of London’s member network a unique career-development opportunity.
Even before signing on, these candidates are responsible for major projects of all kinds across London, and the FLL alumni network is increasingly influential. Together with the top leadership skills provided by Urbancanda, this chance to work – away from the negotiating table – with counterparts from other disciplines, organisations and postcodes is gaining wide acclaim.
The Round 7 launch was preceded by a mentoring workshop where Urbancanda’s Miffa Salter welcomed senior mentors from a range of Future of London partner organisations including Arup, Bioregional, Catalyst, the City of Westminster, the GLA, Jones Lang LaSalle, Peabody, Quod, TVHA, Urban Movement, and more.
Candidates were given a warm welcome and an overview of programme benefits by FoL director Lisa Taylor; FoL board member Ben Denton, who is Strategic Director for Housing, Regeneration and Property at the City of Westminster; and Lovell FLL liaison Visakha Sri Chandrasekera, Regional Business Development Manager (London). Ben and Visakha both mentor, and have experienced the programme ‘up close’ as well as in their capacity as member organisation and sponsor, and highlighted the programme’s value to candidates – and to the sector overall.
FoL Programme and Research Lead Jennifer Johnson, together with Urbancanda’s Miffa Salter and Andrena Cumella, gave candidates an overview of the programme and what to expect from the leadership skills sessions, and the induction session closed with top tips from alumni Philippa Bloomfield and Holly Mann, both of whom have graduated onto FoL’s Leaders Plus programme. Holly and Philippa are also helping to launch the new FLL alumni network – stay tuned for updates!
