On April 22nd, Future London Leaders reached a new milestone, welcoming its tenth (!) cohort of promising candidates from across the London public sector.
The straight-to-business induction included a welcome from Lovell’s Visakha Sri Chandrasekera and Re’s Tony Westbrook, both supporters and experienced mentors. A course overview from FoL director Lisa Taylor was followed by a taste of what the growing alumni programme has to offer from Steering Group alumni rep Karen Montgomerie of LB Islington. Urbancanda’s Miffa Salter then got the group up, thinking and talking, setting the tone for the Leadership Skills modules to come.
The second half, kicked off by LB Ealing’s Pat Hayes, an FoL board member and long-time mentor himself, saw most of the 15 senior mentors join the group for a welcome, orientation, some best-practice tips and another exercise guided by Salter, before getting down to business and scheduling first meetings with their mentees.
After some time for networking, joined by event hosts Lewis Silkin, the candidates wrapped the evening with a get-acquainted dinner.
As of this posting, the cohort just had its first full-day Leadership Skills session, and – starting a new tradition – candidates decided on their ‘elective’ session, one of three combined seminar/visits that take place throughout each programme. The group chose to investigate how one of London’s mature community regeneration schemes has followed up on its early promise… stay tuned for an update on that in August.
Another feature unique to this tenth round is that FoL Team Administrator Baljit Chauhan, who coordinates the Leaders courses, will take part in the whole programme. If you’re after information on future rounds, Bal will be able to give you a first-hand view! To find out more, please contact email@example.com.
