Future London Leaders Round 13 launches

FLL13 Lyn FLL13 launch group

On April 20th, Future London Leaders welcomed its 13th cohort of promising candidates from across the London public sector. The straight-to-business induction included a welcome from FoL board chair and mentor Lyn Garner, director Lisa Taylor and Andy Collyer of programme co-sponsor Lovell, followed by a course outline from Leadership Programmes head Visakha Sri Chandrasekera, and a mini-workshop with Urbancanda’s Andrena Cumella, who got the group up, thinking and talking, setting the tone for the Leadership Skills modules to come.

The second half of the launch saw nearly all of the group’s senior mentors join for a welcome from FoL board member and mentor Stephen McDonald, whose many hats also included representing programme co-sponsor Re/Barnet. Orientation, best-practice tips and another Urbancanda exercise were followed by networking, joined by programme hosts Lewis Silkin, and a get-acquainted dinner for candidates.

The Future London Leaders programme includes:

  • Support from a senior mentor
  • Leadership skills sessions with Urbancanda
  • Practitioner-led field trips and an organisational raid
  • Networking at Future of London’s Aug 24th all-network meetup at City Hall
  • professional ethics workshop

New for this round: To keep in touch with the alumni network and build professional profile, candidates are required to use LinkedIn. They’ll also be testing the combined-day schedule and organisational raids started in Round 12…

Alumni Network: On starting their course, candidates are automatically enrolled in the Leaders Alumni Network, where candidates past and present can keep in touch and build on the knowledge they’re developing. FLL grads and 2015-16 Steering Group reps Jo Mortensen and Rachel George are leading a programme of seminars and networking events which are notified through a dedicated LinkedIn group. Next up is May 12th on Innovation in times of austerity.

It has been designed to support and enrich the career development of promising practitioners across London’s public sector. Since its inception in April 2010, more than 200 candidates have graduated from the programme and its senior-level complement, Leaders Plus. All graduates are welcome to take part in the increasingly active Alumni network. For more information, please contact Leaders Coordinator Sabrina Belle at sabrina@futureoflondon.org.uk.
