Networking and working a room – Alumni-exclusive workshop

As part of our alumni network, we’re really pleased to offer an exclusive half-day workshop focused on networking and working a room, sponsored by Devonshires solicitors.

Making personal contacts is essential for anyone’s career progression, and it’s especially relevant in built environment sector. We need to be working across disciplines, sectors, and borough boundaries in order to be able to tackle the big issues London cities face.

But networking is easier said than done, with many finding it unnatural and unsure of where to start, which is why we want to offer this opportunity to hone your skills and make it less daunting.

The workshop will be a blend of theory and practical guidance, followed by an opportunity for you to put you  newly gained skills into practice.

Participants will leave the workshop with:

  • Guidance on how to maximise networking opportunities for their own needs

  • Practical tips and tricks on: how to start a conversation, how to gracefully exit a conversation, how to follow up on conversations afterwards.

  • A basic understanding of the theory and psychology behind networking

  • An understanding of their own networking style: how to bring their own personality and skills into it and present themselves authentically.

  • An opportunity to put their new networking skills into practice in a supportive environment.

  • A clear plan for what they’d like to achieve at their next networking opportunity and a system for following up on leads
