Join the authors of Tower Hamlet’s design guide in an interactive event to explore how gender-inclusive design can be practically delivered in London.

Developed by London Borough Tower Hamlets, Queen Mary University of London and written by Jennie Savage, the gender inclusive design guidance shows how taking an inclusive approach to urban design and planning can help create socially prosperous places that work better for everyone.

Co-designed and imagined with over 500 women and girls, the design guide translates theory into practice, demonstrating how specific interventions can mitigate risks to public health and child development.

We will bring participants up to date on the findings from the guide and host a cross-sector group of built environment professionals to reflect on its implementation through embodied learning fieldtrips and discussion.

This event is part of our Happy London series – which investigates how the built environment can promote wellbeing, play and community connection with a focus on minoritised communities.

The event programme includes: 1) a field trip demonstrating how gender inclusive design guidance works in practice and 2) an evening panel discussion exploring implications for places and spaces across the capital.
Places are available to attend both parts separately or together.

When: Tuesday 24 June, 2pm – 4.30pm

  • walking the future highline route from Queen Mary University of London to the East London Garden Society
  • guerrilla planting and foraging with Women’s Environmental Network and Urban Adventure

**We invite you to read the inclusive design guide beforehand and come ready to reflect on its content.**

PART 2: Evening Panel Discussion & Informal networking

When: 5.00pm – 7.30pm

The panel discussion will focus on strategic takeaways for inclusive design across London and how place-based learnings can be applied further afield.
