PFI Expiry: why act now?

Strictly invitation only - private lunch

Over the next decade, Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contracts for public assets and services will expire across at least 20 London boroughs.

It's estimated that the total annual unitary charge for London PFIs paid to private sector contractors will peak this year alone at over £1.4 billion.

Failure to exit a PFI contract properly could thus result in costly ongoing maintenance liabilities and missed opportunities to improve assets and services.

Future of London, with partners Devonshires and Airey Miller, have been working on a research project to help local authorities navigate the complex landscape of PFI expiry.

To help you uncover the risks and opportunities that PFI expiry presents, we invite you to an invitation-only working lunch in central London to find out:

  • What you need to know about PFI expiry as senior leaders
  • The financial and other major risks involved in failing to plan ahead
  • Top tips in PFI expiry best practice from real-world examples
  • What the future of financing local infrastructure could look like.

This private event is held under the Chatham House Rule, and open only to London’s senior public sector leaders in finance, education and other services. Numbers are strictly limited.

Through this event you’ll gain a deeper understanding of why it’s vital to plan now, what success looks like and how to get ahead, in an open, relaxed atmosphere with your peers.

When: Wednesday 10 July 2024, 12:00pm to 2:00pm.
Where/Format: in person, London EC2 (strictly invitation only)
