Transition to Net Zero – City Makers’ Forum

What will a transition to net zero look like every day in our cities? Join our next City Makers’ Forum with a panel of experts to find out.

One of the biggest challenges of our time is the ambition to achieve net zero carbon by the internationally agreed deadline of 2050. We must do this to avoid the catastrophic impacts of global warming, particularly for those who are most at risk.

Initiatives such as 15-minute neighbourhoods have been controversial, and there’s been resistance to policies such as the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). This shows that a fast and radical switch towards net zero could be difficult to implement at a local level.

People are already living and working in tough conditions. The huge financial investment needed is also a major barrier to an effective net zero transition.

In recent years the idea of a just transition – a greener future that is fairer for all – has come to the fore. But what could this look like for how we live, work and travel around in cities on a daily basis?

Future of London and Hatch invite you to a City Makers’ Forum event to explore and debate how we can achieve net zero in a practical, inclusive way. With expert guest speakers, we’ll look at such questions as:

  • What does a climate-resilient urban economy look like in our streets, homes and public spaces?
  • How do we sell this vision to the public and to investors to make it a reality?
  • What are the policies we need to put in place to achieve a successful transition to net zero?
  • How do we ensure the transition is inclusive and avoids deepening inequalities?
