Emerging Talent Programme

How employers can attract talent from diverse backgrounds

Our Emerging Talent Programme increases ethnic diversity in the built environment. Find out how your organisation can attract talent from diverse backgrounds.

Employers face two HR challenges. One is increasing the diversity of their workforce and the other is recruiting talent to develop into effective professionals.

Future of London set up the Emerging Talent Programme to help employers in the built environment sector address these diversity and talent challenges together.

The Emerging Talent Programme is now in its second year. The first cohort will graduate at the end of 2023, with positive feedback from employers and recruits. The second cohort started in April 2023.

Work placements offer employer value

We place high calibre recruits for placements with employers in the built environment sector for a total of 15 months to experience different professional roles.

During that time, the candidates are expected to deliver meaningful work that adds value to the host employer.

Each candidate has an experienced mentor to support their development throughout the programme. They also come together as a group to learn key skills such as time management, business presentations, and positive workplace behaviours.

Employer benefits from the Emerging Talent Programme

We recruit entry-level talent who can add value to your organisation during their work placement, as well as providing them with a start in the sector. Host organisations can recruit candidates with a proven track record from ethnic minority backgrounds at the end of the programme.

To ensure the placement is a success, we provide support to employers and candidates including:

  • Handling the recruitment process from start to finish
  • Support the placement throughout, drawing on our experience in managing entry-level talent
  • Create development opportunities for your managers to develop talent from ethnic minority backgrounds
  • Promote your organisation’s positive engagement as a thought leader on diversity and inclusion, along with collaboration and networking with other employers in this sector.

What do current ETP employers say?

“Having this additional capability in our team has allowed us to expand some of our services and take on new work streams. This has allowed us to better support other services within the council.”

Alastair Crockett & Victoria Hinton, Senior Urban Designers, LB Camden

“Our recruit is performing well and she continues to be a great asset to the team.”

Laetitia Lucy, Senior Consultant and ETP recruit line manager, Arup

Are you ready to become an emerging talent employer?

Future of London is keen to work with employers working in housing and regeneration who will host placements for our Emerging Talent Programme.

We handle all the recruitment and learning opportunities. We also support the employer and recruit to ensure the placement stays on track.

In return, the host organisation pays a monthly fee that covers recruitment, programme support, and the salary of the recruit. Host organisations avoid spending time, money and effort in recruiting and directly employing the recruits.
