Our Council-led Housing Network has launched a new resource library with case studies and expert insights for local authority housing development teams.
Future of London has launched an innovative new case study library that addresses common challenges faced by housing teams and encourages peer-to-peer sharing of solutions.
The resource library offers borough-specific case studies that highlight successful strategies for tackling the housing crisis. The library also features expert panel roundtable summaries that offer actionable insights with valuable guidance on managing risks and emerging challenges.
“We developed the resource library in response to increasing interest from boroughs eager to learn from one another’s experiences,” said Visakha Sri Chandrasekera, Future of London’s Housing Programmes Director. “Housing development teams can leverage insights from past projects, so they don’t have to start from scratch.”
Helping boroughs tackle the housing shortfall
London faces a significant shortfall in social and affordable housing. Over 57,000 affordable homes are needed annually to meet demand, according to the Greater London Authority. Only 29,000 were started last year. This highlights a critical gap in supply, underscoring the opportunity for local authorities to collaborate effectively.
“The resource library provides a platform for knowledge-sharing between development teams across London,” says Alistair Gale, Head of Programming, Design and Aftercare at Islington Council. “Through this collaborative approach, we can share learning that offers real insight and helps us to deliver our affordable housing in an effective way.”
We will be expanding the library with employer requirements, design reviews, and toolkits and templates to provide teams with more materials for project planning and implementation.
We are encourage local authority teams to contribute their own experiences and materials, so this shared knowledge base grows to meet the needs of London’s housing teams.
