Future of London is inviting employers to offer work placements for the next round of its award-winning Emerging Talent Programme. Find out how we increase ethnic diversity in the sector – and partner organisations.
Our Emerging Talent Programme works with employers to increase ethnic diversity in the built environment sector and create opportunities for entry-level candidates.
Since the launch in 2022, 34 candidates have graduated from the programme, with 100% of their line managers saying they would consider Emerging Talent Programme (ETP) candidates for future roles.
Nearly three-quarters (71%) of participants are in full-time employment, and 43% of candidates were employed by employers who hosted a placement.

“The diversity part of supporting new talent means that we should be more representative of the communities that we serve,” says Rosemarie Jenkins, regeneration team leader at Camden Council, who line-managed an ETP candidate.
As well as helping to increase ethnic diversity in the built environment sector, ETP employers see direct benefits ranging from upskilling managers to enhance their equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategies.

Future of London places candidates with two employers during the 15-month programme, and each employer hosts two candidates.
“We recruit entry-level talent and then support the candidates throughout their placements to help them adjust to unfamiliar workplace cultures,” says Hermione Penny, Emerging Talent Programme Manager. “We also provide a mentor and training in key workplace skills so they can quickly add value during their placement.
We are recruiting new hosts up to the end of 2025, with candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds starting their first placement in April 2026.
