To explain why we need to look beyond the numbers to consider types of homes, Hannah Gibbs has written a blog that looks at the scale of the challenge and the risks of getting it wrong.
“The national 1.5 million homes target for this parliament, which equates to about 350,000 for London in the same period, is necessary, clear and measurable,” she says. “But these numbers must translate into actual homes located in socially, economically and environmentally sustainable neighbourhoods.”
